Getting there

By public transports: From Interlaken Est take the train to Grindelwald, then continue with Bus No 125 to Grindelwald Pfingsteggbahn

By car:  Via Spiez to Grindelwald - cable car station Pfingstegg (Parking subject to charge)

 

Approach path (only in summer)

From Grindelwald 5h 30' or from Pfingstegg 4 h 30 via Bäregg - Rots Gufer. Starting at  Bäregg the path is marked white-blue-white, i.e alpine route T4. It is very well secured. Avoid using it in thundery weather (dangerous)

Hiking on the approach path and spending a night in the hut are well worth it just for the ascent and the views. The path is checked at the beginning of each season, chains and ladders are installed on the upper section. They are removed at the end of the season

  • Kleines Schreckhorn 3494 m, SE ridge, AD, 3a
  • or NE  ridge, D-, 4a
  • Strahlegghorn 3461 m, crossing N ridge – SE face, PD+, II+
  • Pfaffenstöckli 3114 m with crossing via P.3343, AD-, 4a
  • Gwächta 3164 m, PD+

  • Strahleggpass - Aarbiwak - Lauteraarhütte - Grimselpass
  • Gwächtenjoch -Glecksteinhütte
  • Zäsenberg - Mittellegihütte or Station Eismeer / Jungfrau train
