Getting there

By public transports or by car, via Visp - Zermatt - Trift - Rothorn hut

Approach path (only in summer)

Zermatt - Alterhaupt - Stellistein - Trift - Vieliboden - Rothorn hut, 4 h 30, T3
Rothorn hut - Oberes Äschhorn - Hohlichtgletscher - Hohlichtpass - Schalihorn - S summit
4 h, descent via N summit - N ridge to Schalijoch, 5 h, AD , 3b (ice axe and crampons required)

The access via Weisshorn hut is no longer possible
Alternative Access from the Cabane d’Arpitettaz, at the beginning of the season snow conditions permitting

Summit and routes

Schaligrat (SW-ridge) -Weisshorn D+, 4b
Descent via E ridge to the Weisshorn hut, AD, 3a or
Descent via N ridge to the Cabane de Tracuit, AD+, 4a

The highlight of the ascent of the Weisshorn is the climb of the last 750 m. You pass over the bolders, gendarmes and promontories of the Schaligrat ridge to reach the summit. It is recommended to do a reconnaissance of the first metres of the route the day before the ascent
